Title : Amanda Knox Freed After Appeal in Italian Court
Source : http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/04/world/europe/amanda-knox-defends-herself-in-italian-court.html

This article is about a 24 year old american girl named Amanda Knox , who was falsely accused of murdering her room mate Meredith Ketcher . Amanda and her Boyfreind(Raffaele Sollecito ) were both arrested and accused of the murder. The 3 students were vacationing and travel in Italy . On November 27 , 2009 Meredith Ketcher was found stabbed in her room. Police believed Amanda And her Boyfreind had to something to do with the murder . The Decision of sentencing Amanda Knox to 26 years and Raffaele Sollecito to 25 years in prison overturned . During the original trial and appeal procecutors tried to make Amanda look as if she was a Terrible young girl despite her court apperance .The case was mostly based on circumstantial evidence and DNA found on the murder weapon which the police handeled and took high analysis on the materials. The Italian Supreme Court overturned the convictions today . After being arrested and prisoned for 4 years Amanda was releaved. Procecutors were highly ashamed and upset . Amanda was Thankful for one her Lawyers  ( Maria Del Grosso )

The siginificance of this event is that Amanda had an oppurtunity to get a second chance . Usually when you sentenced theirs a 50 % chance that they would overturn your case  , but the Italian Supreme court gave her another chance. Another thing thats very significant is Amanda Family and lawyers never gave up , they continued to fight the charges . Amanda was blessed with oppurtunity that most likely impposible to have . This story will have an impact on people who have beem falsely accused , but was still arrested and sentenced. This story would also have a huge impact on the world globally , because the world will then see that you should attempt to give someone a second chance . You may never know what actually happened and thats why they should have gone over evidence and any statments carefully. The world will then see that falsely accusing one has to stop and this might make a change.

Enlightment thinker Beccaria would have agreed with my opinion. Beccaria believed crimainals should be treated kindly and fairly , also belived the Death penalty torture and torment were wrong . Beccaria belief contributed to the 6 and 8 th Admendment giving the right to a speedy trial and no excessive bail or creul and unusual punishment . Beccaria would view my article as interesting yet true , because Amanda case took a long to justify . Beccaria believed in the rights to Justice and Amanda was someone who was a victim of the Justice system wrongly accusing. I think Beccaria would support the situation , because Amanada was sentenced to 26 years at the original trial . And Beccaria would investigate on the evidence they collected in order to sentence her. Beccaria studied the need of reforms in the criminal justice system . Amanda Knox was one who was accused and luckly she wasnt sentenced to life or death . If Amanda was sentenced to life or death without a chance of having the case overturned would be a truely unfair.

  1. Suhen,

You need to be careful with your capitalization. Remember, only the first word in a sentence and proper nouns (names, places) need to be capitalized. In your first paragraph, particularly, you liberally capitalized words that should not be capitalized. Also, you forgot to put the apostrophe (i.e. theirs, whats) in the word.
Also, be careful about using statistics that are made up. What evidence do you have to support the statement that 50% of cases are overturned? I don't believe that was that in the article.
Your analysis of this issue from Beccaria's perspective is interesting but not wholly accurate. Our readings in class showed us that Beccaria was concerned with how someone accused of a crime is treated. He would, therefore be concerned with how Amanda was treated before she was found guilty. There is nothing in the article to suggest that Amanda was tortured, tormented or sentenced to death for the crime.

    Good try.
